Natural cocoa is considered an exceptionally rich source of nutrients and bioactive substances that offer numerous health benefits. With its high antioxidant and mineral content, it is a truly valuable component of a balanced diet. Of course, it is most beneficial in its pure form – unalkalized and unskimmed, like our kakawco. To have our claims scientifically confirmed, we had two cocoa powders that we import from Latin America analyzed – 100% Caquetá and 100% Huila. The aim was to determine the content of specific substances in cocoa – we were particularly interested in antioxidants, magnesium, caffeine, and theobromine. The tests were carried out by Eurofins Food Testing. How did kakawco fare?

Kakawco as a source of magnesium
Non-defatted and non-alkalized 100% cocoa powder from the Caquetá region of Colombia has been independently tested as a true super source of magnesium. Our Caquetá contains 2660 mg of magnesium per kilogram, making this cocoa one of the richest sources of magnesium among foods – similar to pumpkin seeds. For comparison, if you eat one banana, you will consume approximately 37 mg of magnesium. If you drink one serving (15 g) of Caquetá cocoa prepared with water only, you will consume approximately 40 mg of magnesium. In addition, the magnesium in cocoa is bound to natural organic substances, which promotes its natural absorption!
Magnesium is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system, muscles, and heart. The second cocoa tested, 100% Huila, contains 60 mg of iron per kilogram, which is essential for the production of red blood cells.

Better concentration with kakawco
The aforementioned analysis also confirmed the content of natural stimulants – caffeine (207 mg/100 g) and theobromine (1054.2 mg/100 g). These substances promote concentration, improve mood, and have a less aggressive effect than coffee, making cocoa a more suitable alternative. Caffeine promotes concentration, reduces fatigue, and improves physical performance. Theobromine a compound found almost exclusively in cocoa, has a mild stimulating effect, but also promotes relaxation of blood vessels, making it a suitable stimulant even for people with high blood pressure.

The combination of caffeine and theobromine contributes to improved mood, mental performance, and overall energy levels. One of the antioxidants found in tested cocoa, epicatechin, improves blood flow to the brain, thereby supporting cognitive functions such as memory and concentration.
