As with all our products, the choice of this one for us was based mainly on the social dimension and the very approach of the supplier, who is guided by the motto: "Trade can have a positive impact on people and the planet" The lack of local businesses and infrastructure in West Africa leads to growers selling most of the raw nuts in the shell (90%) to foreign buyers at a lower price. The raw material is thus exported more than 10 000 km from the harvesting site to India, Vietnam or Brazil, where it is processed and then travels back to the European market.

Our supplier's priority is to ensure that the growing, harvesting and processing of cashew nuts is carried out by local growers and businesses in Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, Ghana and Benin. This not only reduces the carbon footprint compared to the current supply chain, but also increases the price of the raw material and creates jobs in rural areas of West Africa where poverty and unemployment are high.

Through our Fairtrade supply chain in Burkina Faso, the supplier is committed to supporting this rural community away from commercial avenues and offering workers a fair and respectful working environment.
